The Undocumented Trial of William C. Hopkinson
A stageplay which reimagines the 1914 Vancouver Trial of Mewa Singh 101 years later, at the same venue it originally took place.”The Undocumented Trial” revisits the Vancouver Provincial Courthouse in October of 1914 and re-examines the trial of Mewa Singh, who is put on the stand to answer for the assassination of a prominent Canadian Immigration Inspector. An unexpected defense from Mewa Singh’s attorney takes the proceedings from an open-and-shut case, to a surreal debate of conscience.
“The Undocumented Trial” will be having six public showings over the four days of January 8-11 at the Vancouver Art Gallery.
