CBC Musical Nooners July 15-Aug 23
The sounds of summer are here: the CBC Musical Nooners return for their fifth year! These free, live music concerts will be happening every weekday on the CBC plaza on Hamilton Street (between West Georgia and Robson).

Bard on the Beach Festival June 11-Sept 20
Celebrating its 25th Season in 2014, Bard on the Beach is one of Canada’s largest not-for-profit, professional Shakespeare Festivals. Presented in a magnificent setting on the waterfront in Vancouver’s Vanier Park, the Festival offers Shakespeare plays, related dramas, and several special events in two performance tents from June through September.

Honda Celebration of Light
The annual off-shore fireworks display is back with another three night schedule. July 26, 30 and Aug 2. An excess of 300,000 spectators are expected at English Beach each night during the event’s 24th year.

38th Annual Powell St Festival Aug 1-3
The Powell Street Festival celebrating Japanese arts, culture and heritage has had to reorganize locations and is now a car-free Block Party spanning four city blocks with Alexander Street and Jackson Avenue as its central hub. Enjoy traditional and contemporary Japanese Canadian performances and demonstrations, including taiko drumming, sumo wrestling, martial arts, bonsai and ikebana, folk and modern dance, alternative pop/rock/urban music, visual arts, film/video, as well as historical walking tours, tea ceremonies, and a fantastic array of Japanese food, crafts, & displays. One outdoor main stage and several indoor venues.

Harmony Arts Festival Aug 1-10
West Vancouver hosts their annual 10 day open-air celebration of visual, performing and culinary arts on the waterfront. Lots of excellent music. Check the schedule.

23 year old saxophonist John Nicolson has been quickly gaining attention in Vancouver’s jazz community. As a recent graduate from Capilano University’s jazz studies program, John has studied with Chad Makela, Steve Kaldestad, Brad Turner and Bill Coon. John will be moving to Toronto in the fall.

Vancouver Piano Ensemble
Performing this evening are: Chin Yen Lee, Susan Wong Lim, Win Rompf and Tanya Tyuleneva.
Specializing in multi piano music, the group has performed both locally and internationally, including Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Italy, China, and Singapore. In collaboration with the renowned Baynov Piano Ensemble from Germany, VPE played concerts for various combinations of pianists, including up to 32 hands on 8 pianos. Performing this evening are: Chin Yen Lee, Susan Wong Lim, Win Rompf and Tanya Tyuleneva.

Sunday Aug 3
36th Annual Pride Parade 12-3p.m.
Attracting crowds of more than 650,000, the Pride Parade is one of the largest and most successful LGBTQ events in the world. The parade begins at Robson Street and Thurlow Street, heads west to Denman Street, follows Denman to Pacific Street and Beach Avenue and finishes at Sunset Beach Pride Festival and Market.
